If you've watched The News Hour on PBS over any length of time, you'll have seen Michael Beschloss. He's also on NBC -- a mild-mannered "presidential historian" who makes thoughtful and unsurprising remarks.
Things change. On Saturday, the anniversary of the day Melania Trump unveiled her renovated Rose Garden, Beschloss produced a photo of the new garden and said Melania had "eviscerated" the old one.
When Melania first made the changes, many hands were wrung over Jackie Kennedy's flowering apple trees, the colorful roses and other flowers, and etc. Melania was trying to improve drainage and make room for more members of the press, put in better comms, and pave over a bit of the grass so wheelchair-bound people could more easily use the garden. There weren't a lot of fans. Remarks were made on how the new garden was "imperial" instead of "democratic," among other bon mots.
Melania stayed above it all. This time, though, she snapped back, or at least someone using the "Office of Melania Trump" Twitter account did. The post had a more flattering photo than Beschloss's, and said that Beschloss had “proven his ignorance by showing a picture of the Rose Garden in its infancy.”
And here's the kicker: “His misleading information is dishonorable & he should never be trusted as a professional historian.”
"Dishonorable?" Is the former President writing Melania's tweets?
