7/26/21 Pelosi Adds a Second Republican, Adam Kinzinger, to the Select Committee on 1/6

Now that Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy's five picks for the 1/6 committee have made their statements, lied their lies, and scuttled back under a troll's bridge somewhere, Nancy Pelosi has turned to Adam Kinzinger (R-Ill.) to be the second Republican on the committee.

The first is, of course, Liz Cheney (R-Wyo.), whom Republicans stripped of her House leadership position for giving less than her full support to Trump.
Like Cheney, Kinzinger was one of ten House Republicans who voted to impeach Donald Trump after the 1/6 insurrection attempt.
Kinzinger has made down-to-earth but often witty comments about Trump and the painful developments among GOP lawmakers -- as well as the trash-talking Georgia Rep. Marjorie Taylor Green.
Consider his remarks on McCarthy's threats to strip committee assignments from GOP members that Pelosi tapped for the committee. After saying, "Who gives a _?" Kinzinger added, “I do think the threat of removing committees is ironic, because you won't go after the space lasers and white supremacist people but those who tell the truth." Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-Ga.) had blamed "Jewish space lasers" for wildfires in California, and Paul Gosar (R-Ariz.) had attended a white nationalist gathering.
Kinzinger is also a veteran and thus a reasonable substitute for Trump-loving Indiana Rep. Jim Banks, whom Pelosi refused to seat on the committee. Kinzinger served in Air Force Special Operations, Air Combat Command, Air Mobility Command, and Air National Guard. He remains a pilot in the Air National Guard.
The committee's first hearing is tomorrow, when they'll listen to testimony from Capitol and D.C. police officers.
