Senators Rob Portman (R-Ohio) and Kyrsten Sinema (D-Ariz.) are breathing a little easier today about finding support for their co-negotiated infrastructure bill. The U.S. Chamber of Commerce, among other business groups, has joined with the AFL-CIO to endorse a $1.2 trillion infrastructure plan that has already gotten the go-ahead from President Biden and a group of 21 Senate moderates.
“We urge Congress to turn this framework into legislation that will be signed into law, and our organizations are committed to helping see this cross the finish line,” the groups said in a joint statement.
The signatories included a mind-boggling combination of entities. In addition to the ones already mentioned, they include the Business Roundtable, the National Association of Manufacturers, the National Retail Federation, the American Trucking Association, the Association of American Railroads, the National Association of Wholesaler-Distributers, and the National Stone, Sand and Gravel Association -- as well as the Laborer’s International Union of North America and North America’s Building Trades Union. Add to that two groups that work for bipartisanship in general, the Bipartisan Policy Center and No Labels.
All we can say is Wow -- and we hope that the bill will get past the array of obstructionists in D.C.
