7/12/21 Denver Police Stop a Likely Massacre After a Tip from a Hotel Employee

The police aren't saying that four people arrested in Denver were definitely planning a mass assault, but from the facts, it's hard to believe it could be anything else.

And while authorities are being coy about the details, what we know so far is that a hotel employee spotted guns in at least one of the two hotel rooms where the suspects were staying, in a hotel only one block from Coors Field, where the Major League Baseball All-Star Game is to be held on Tuesday. Around the area, several venues have scheduled events associated with the game, and festivities are well under way already.

The hotel employee told the manager, and the manager sounded the alarm with law enforcement. What they found were "more than a dozen" guns, including "several rifles," a police source said. There were "hundreds of rounds" of ammunition.

The suspects were three men who are now being investigated for possession of a weapon by a previous offender, and a woman who was arrested in drug charges. Altogether, not people you want to see at the old ball game.

"We want to reassure everyone, reassure our public," said Denver's mayor, Michael Hancock, "that there is no ongoing threat and that it is safe to enjoy the festivities throughout downtown Denver."

Let's hope he's right.
