Two months post-inauguration, VP Kamala Harris and the nation's Second Gentleman (her husband) are still sitting in an American Versailles sans jardins named Blair House. That's two months of pining for a place where they can have the family over without wondering if they should put vinyl on the settees.
The "real" Veep Mansion at the National Naval Observatory is still having its innards modernized -- all very important -- and the lawful residents can't move in because it's such a pain for the contractors to stop work when the Second Family is there.
It must be hard for Kamala to wait. Instead of jogging up the Lincoln Memorial for her morning workout, trailed by the Secret Service, Ms. Harris will be able to jog on 13 acres of wooded, private land, or even on the full 72 acres of the Observatory Grounds. There's a pool too.
Maybe there's some Republican plot behind the delay, but so far, we haven't heard of one.
American homeowners can relate. Sometimes the contractors won't leave until they use up the entire renovation budget. At One Observatory Circle, contracts for improvements in plumbing and HVAC total $3.8 million. It could be a long while before it's all gone.
Let’s hope they finish up soon, and that our first female VP can move into her rightful residence!
