7/7: We're Drinking Better Beer, But at Home

July 7, 2020

Forty percent of craft beer is sold on tap.
Too bad no one's going out these days
.

We know a few things have changed since COVID-19 hit US shores: More people work at home and shop online, and fewer use public transportation.

But not every change is predictable. Take the beer market. Cheap beer store sales are on the upswing, but premium beers are selling significantly better -- 23% better -- again, in stores.

Problem is, 40% of craft beer is sold on tap in gathering spots that the pandemic has emptied out. In short, small breweries are having a very tough time.

By comparison, corporate brewers -- call them Big Beer -- see only around 10% in draft sales.  They're not hurting nearly as much.
