12/4/2020: A Working Single Mom Takes in Five Children for a Total of Twelve

“Some are born great, some achieve greatness, and others have greatness thrust upon them,” Shakespeare wrote in Twelfth Night.

In the latter category is Francesca McCall, a Birmingham, Alabama single mother of seven who has taken in five nieces and nephews orphaned by COVID19 in October.

Her new brood ranges in age from infancy to 17.

With in-home help from her mother and additional help from her church, Francesca is coping with the challenges. She has the boys in one bedroom and the girls in two others.

"They're doing okay at times," McCall says, "At times they break down, so they're having their days and their moments."

All of the school-age kids are using remote learning to avoid COVID19 infection, but McCall still has to get them up and ready for school. She's now working at home.

A member of her church says, "She’s not the type of person to ask for anything.” That member and one other started a GoFundMe account for McCall, which has reached $56,000 to date.

Isn't there a TV show where they build a house and give it to a deserving recipient? It looks to me as if McCall and kin would be perfect for a new episode!
