One thing that Trump's family knows intrinsically is that you don't want a paper trail.
We all know why, too. It's the same reason that Trump wants to do a preemptive pardon of the kids deemed Washington-worthy: Don Jr., Eric, and Ivanka and Jared Kushner.
Not only does Trump know that as a family they've committed crimes, but apparently he doesn't know or won't tell what and how many crimes there were. Like any of his other business ventures, Trump's success in the White House comes from conning the public -- conning chumps.
This time, the would-be chumps are future historians. However, a coalition of watchdog organizations is suing the White House in federal court over White House records. Led by the Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics in Washington (CREW), the lawsuit's plaintiffs also include the National Security Archive, the Society for Historians of American Foreign Relations and the American Historical Association.
These groups collect presidential records, and they say Trump is making the records vanish. The suit claims that the president has “planned or executed destruction” of records without notifying the archivist or Congress as required by law.
It also aims to halt the Trump family method of deleting telling information. The Trump Brigade sends along to the archives only screenshots of messages, which don't include the metadata or attachments or the digital fingerprints that are "needed to authenticate the message."
In response to the lawsuit, the White House metaphorically stuck its thumbs in its ears and wiggled its fingers, saying "The Trump Administration acts in accordance with statutory requirements."
Well, uh, no. The Trumps don't own that information to begin with. The owners are We the People.
