12/4/20: An Oracle Speaks of Georgia's Senate Runoff. Should We Listen?

The pollsters say that things are looking peachy for Democrats down in Georgia. Both Dems running for Senate hold the lead over their opponents, according to SurveyUSA, whose poll was commissioned by WXIA-TV in Atlanta.

Rev. Raphael Warnock has 52% of the vote against Kelly Loeffler's 45%; Jon Ossoff leads by 50% to David Perdue's 48%. The Democrats' lead is especially strong among Black voters, who give Warnock an 87% advantage; Ossoff's is 83%.

Given the colossal polling failures in the last two presidential elections, Democrats ought to be wary of the polling arts.

This poll was done with online interviews of 850 Georgia adults over the last four days of November, with 717 of them already registered to vote. SurveyUSA explains its methodology in verbiage as lengthy and engaging as any online media privacy notice.

We love to hear these encouraging predictions. Keep 'em coming, soothsayers! But we'll still have to wait till the voting results on January 5 to see if they got it right.

If Democrats win both races, Democrats will take the Majority in the US Senate, and will assume the Leadership.
