4/11/21 5th Grader Hands Out Flowers After Colorado Tragedy

Here's a gesture that made everybody feel rosy.

After a gunman killed and wounded several people at Boulder's King Sooper grocery store, JJ Witmer, who lives a half-hour from Boulder, was feeling scared, and he thought about how grocery store employees were feeling too.
He's 11 years old. He came up with plan: "Flowers make people happy and smile. And I just knew that they were going to be a little bit scared to go to work that day, so, that's why I decided to hand out flowers," he said.
The day after the crime, he went with his mom to some of the town's grocery stores and handed out red roses to grocery-store employees -- 80 of them.
At first, he wasn't sure how they'd react, but they loved it. Many burst into tears as he approached. He got air hugs, fist bumps, and real hugs, and it was obvious that he'd made their day. He was "flabbergasted," he said -- and elated.
All around, it was a better day than the one before it.
