12/7/20: Florida Whistleblower Gets Raided -- In Retaliation, She Says

Back in May, Rebekah Jones was in charge of the Florida Department of Health's (DOH’s) public COVID19 case-count "dashboard," which was designed to help people track data about cases in Florida. But she was pressured to publish data that she says overcounted the number of tests done and undercounted the actual number of cases. After she refused, she was fired.

Undaunted, Jones went public about the information she'd been asked to put on the dashboard. She then created her own public dashboard to report cases in the way she said was accurate.

The Florida DOH didn't like that either. According to the Florida Department of Law Enforcement, they received a complaint in November "regarding unauthorized access to a DOH messaging system which is part of the emergency alert system, to be used for emergencies only. Agents believe someone at the [Jones's] residence ... illegally accessed the system."

A video of the incident shows the beginning of the raid, including her shouting that they were pointing a gun at her children. The police took away all her computer hardware "and tech," she says.

Jones has no doubt that the raid was retaliation, and that it had come from the governor.

“If [DeSantis] thought pointing a gun in my face was a good way to get me to shut up, he’s about to learn just how wrong he was,” she tweeted. “I’ll have a new computer tomorrow. And then I’m going to get back to work.”

Can you think of any reason why Jones (or one of her kids!) would hack into an emergency messaging system at the DOH? Is it possible Jones did something illegal beyond what the police stated, and that the raid was legitimate? What might she have done?
