7/3: Did a White House "philosophical disagreement" on price gouging slam the brakes on DOJ enforcement?

July 3, 2020

Today's White House is full of Jokers.
The Department of Justice's "task force" on price gouging of Personal Protective Equipment
supplies, formed in late March, started off with a headline grabber, but since then, the DOJ won't say how many cases it has investigated, Politico.com reports.

Possible reason: White House "free marketeers" thought that price gouging was merely a healthy market response to shortage.

This article quotes a source who says the DOJ has to check cases with the White House so it won't charge people who were granted a sort of "permission to gouge" from another corner of the government.

Is PPE profiteering just another aspect of the American dream of prosperity? When does the free market become a form of brutality that must be regulated by the government?

When Ben Franklin crossed out "property" in "life, liberty, and the pursuit of ..." and wrote in "happiness," was he saying "except it's okay to price-gouge hospital supplies during a pandemic?"
