| Peter Navarro understands statistics as good as any damn NIH doctor |
Navarro wrote a brash op-ed in USA Today on Wednesday detailing supposed scientific faux pas that Dr. Anthony Fauci has committed since early in the COVID-19 saga. Its title was “Anthony Fauci has been wrong about everything I have interacted with him on.”
Fauci is probably the most prominent of public health experts; he has headed up the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases for more than three decades, according to The Hill. Meanwhile, Navarro's self-reported qualifications amount to a social science background that enables him to read statistical studies.
“I can’t explain Peter Navarro,” Fauci said in an interview in The Atlantic. “He’s in a world by himself."
White House strategists, key Republican senators, and Trump himself have spoken up against Navarro's attack on Fauci. Those comments have met with deep skepticism from a wide swath of Americans. A White House memo circulated only a few days ago that listed mistakes Fauci has made since the early days of the pandemic, mistakes that could be used to undermine him.

Among the most recent, of course, is the administration's rule change shifting the national collection of COVID-19 data away from the Centers for Disease Control.
Fauci added, “I just want to do my job. I’m really good at it. . . . And I’m going to keep doing it.”
